Friedrich Engels: "Der Islam ist eine auf Orientalen, speziell Araber zugeschnittene Religion, also einerseits auf handel- und gewerbetreibende Städter, andrerseits auf nomadisierende Beduinen. Darin liegt aber der Keim einer periodisch wiederkehrenden Kollision. Die Städter werden reich, üppig, lax in Beobachtung des "Gesetzes". Die Beduinen, arm und aus Armut sittenstreng, schauen mit Neid und Gier auf diese Reichtümer und Genüsse. Islam under Lenin: (by Dave Crouch, The Bolsheviks and Islam, in International Socialism # 110)

A declaration ‘To all the Muslim workers of Russia and the East’, issued by the fledgling Soviet government on 24 November 1917, stated:

Muslims of Russia…all you whose mosques and prayer houses have been destroyed, whose beliefs and customs have been trampled upon by the tsars and oppressors of Russia: your beliefs and practices, your national and cultural institutions are forever free and inviolate. Know that your rights, like those of all the peoples of Russia, are under the mighty protection of the revolution

Sharia law had been a central demand of Muslims during the February Revolution of 1917 and, as the civil war drew to a close in 1920-1921, a parallel court system was created in Central Asia and the Caucasus, with Islamic courts administering justice in accordance with sharia law side by side with Soviet legal institutions. The aim was for people to have a choice between religious and revolutionary justice.... Some sharia sentences, such as stoning or cutting hands off, were outlawed.

The Communist Party began planning an all-out attack on Islam under the banner of combating ‘crimes based on custom’, focusing on ‘women’s rights’ and, in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, on the veil in particular. The slogan of the campaign was ‘Hujum’, which meant ‘storming’ or ‘assault’ in the languages of Central Asia. After two years of largely ineffective propaganda, the hujum entered its mass-action phase on 8 March 1927—International Women’s Day. At mass meetings women were called upon to unveil: small groups of native women were expected to come to the podium and throw their veils on bonfires....
The principal historians of the hujum agree that the effect of the assault was to strengthen Islam in the Soviet Union. Far from the six-month effort to eradicate the veil that had been anticipated, it took decades for the party to make good on its promise to eradicate the paranji. Not until the 1950s or 1960s did veils become rare on Central Asian streets. When Uzbekistan broke away from the USSR in 1991, veiling swiftly came back into fashion, without state sanction or encouragement, as a symbol of national independence.

Multiculturalism seems to operate to the same even-handedness as the old Cold War joke in which the American tells the Soviet guy that "in my country everyone is free to criticize the President", and the Soviet guy replies, "Same here. In my country everyone is free to criticize your President." Under one-way multiculturalism, the Muslim world is free to revere Islam and belittle the west's inheritance, and, likewise, the western world is free to revere Islam and belittle the west's inheritance. • 9/11 Hijackers Relied on Domestic Support Network.

  The findings of an 18-month investigation by Fox's Specials Unit, called the "Secrets of 9/11," to be broadcast Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, shows that some members of the suspected Al Qaeda support network entered the U.S. nearly a decade before the attacks and that others are still living here in plain sight. The House Homeland Security Committee shares these suspicions. A letter, first obtained by Fox News, states that the committee, chaired by Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., has launched a congressional investigation into the New Mexico-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and his likely role as a 9/11 facilitator. 
  

• Plot to Shoot Up Muhammad-Cartoon-Printing Newspaper Thwarted, While Cartoonist Molly Norris Remains in Hiding. By Curtis Cartier, Dec. 29 2010, Seattle Weekly 
  As far as we know, Molly Norris is still alive and well. Not that we know much. Since the former Seattle Weekly contributing cartoonist went into hiding in September, after her idea to make May 20 "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" put her on a terrorist hit list, she's essentially been erased from the world. The New York Times reports that Danish and Swedish authorities announced the arrest of five men that were supposedly planning an "imminent... Mumbai-style" attack against Denmark's Jyllands-Posten newspaper, which sparked international controversy when it published cartoons depicting the Muslim Prophet Muhammad in 2005. Agents apparently found a "machine gun with a silencer, live ammunition and 'plastic strips that can be used as handcuffs.'" They said the extremists were planning to break into the newspaper's office and "kill as many (people) as possible." • Fasi Zaka: Pakistan’s human cockroaches (The Express Tribune, August 24^th, 2010.).The fact is, if we had real democracy, there would be no internet in Pakistan, women would not be allowed out of their homes, education would come to a standstill and we would begin a programme of killing off every minority. Thank you corrupt generals and politicians, you keep this at bay with some sense of being answerable to a world that still has some humanity in it, even if you don’t. And please, no excuses, no excuses. Don’t give us that, “If only there was true Islam they would be better”. I think a thousand years is enough, we can’t wait longer. And there was no America in existence for most of that, or even western colonialism.
• PA and Abbas honor terrorist planners of Olympics massacre (palwatch, Aug. 25, 2010).
  On Sept. 5, 1972, eight members of the Palestinian terror organization Black September broke into the athletes' village at the Munich Olympics. They kidnapped and ultimately murdered 11 Israeli athletes and coaches.
  
  1. After Amin Al-Hindi, one of the senior planners of the terror operation, died this week, the Palestinian Authority glorified him and his terror attack. The official PA daily described his participation in the Olympic massacre, saying he was "one of the stars who sparkled... at the sports stadium in Munich." The attack itself was referred to as "just one of many shining stations" in his life.
  The PA daily reports that Chairman Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad were at the funeral, where "a red carpet was laid out for the arrival of the body, and the military band played the final farewell melody."
  "Everyone knows that Amin Al-Hindi was one of the stars who sparkled at one of the stormiest points on the international level - the operation that was carried out at the [Olympics] sports stadium in Munich, Germany, in 1972. That was just one of many shining stations."

  Reporter: "Palestinians were surprised this morning at the announcement of the death of one of the most important leaders of the Palestinian revolution, Muhammad Daoud Oudeh (Abu Daoud), who engineered the Munich Operation and was one of the most important of Israel's most wanted in the 1970s."
  
  
• Charles Krauthammer (WP, 07/02/10): Terror -- and candor in describing the Islamist ideology behind it.

  The administration's refusal to identify terrorists reflects a dangerous cowardice. President Obama's National Security Strategy insists on calling the enemy -- how else do you define those seeking your destruction? -- "a loose network of violent extremists." Why is this important? Because the first rule of war is to know your enemy. If you don't, you wander into intellectual cul-de-sacs and ignore the real causes that might allow you to prevent recurrences. Islamist fundamentalism is not only a risk factor. It is the risk factor, the common denominator linking all the great terror attacks of this century -- from 9/11 to Mumbai, from Fort Hood to Times Square, from London to Madrid to Bali. The attackers varied in nationality, education, age, social class, native tongue and race. The one thing that united them was the jihadist vision in whose name they acted.
  
  

• AP, 06/25/10: Pakistan will monitor seven major websites, including Google and Yahoo, to block anti-Islamic links and content, an official said Friday. Seventeen lesser-known sites are being blocked outright for alleged blasphemous material. The moves follow Pakistan's temporary ban imposed on Facebook in May that drew both praise and condemnation in a country that has long struggled to figure out how strict a version of Islam it should follow.

• Vittorio Arrigoni, kidnapped and murdered
  Italian Journalist Vittorio Arrigoni's body has reportedly been found in Gaza. He was killed by a small faction of religious radicals according to reports. Around 4:30 p.m. west coast time, it was tweeted that Vittorio in the al-Dughmoush family block in Gaza, and the Hamas police were surrounding the area. Several members of the al-Dughmoush family are said to be associated with Salafist. This is a group that reportedly looks down on Hamas for not being sufficiently religious and they are known for a rejection of western influence.
  Just a few days ago, on 4 April 2011, Filmmaker Juliano Mer-Khamis was Murdered in Jenin, the scene of severe fighting during the Second Intifada. Juilano's mother Arna had famously provided a haven for the Palestinian youth in Jenin. She was Jewish, her husband, Juliano's father, was a Palestinian Christian. Juliano was murdered in front of his wife by masked men who were immediately assumed to be Palestinian. (Salem-News.com, 4/14/2011)

• .Hamed Abdel-Samad: Spätestens nach dem vereitelten Attentat auf den Zeichner der Mohammed-Karikaturen, Kurt Westergaard, sollte den Europäern ein Licht aufgehen: Der radikale Islam ist auf dem Vormarsch. Wenn wir vom Islam reden, meinen wir nicht volkstümliche Erscheinungsbilder, sondern meist die politische Ideologie und die Geisteshaltung, die dem Glaubenssystem Islam entspringen. Es geht um den Islam, der den Westen als eine feindselige gleichgeschaltete Masse sieht und sich davon in jeder Form abgrenzt.... Hochprozentiger Islam in großen Mengen schadet dem Zusammenleben und hemmt die Integration, denn dieser Islam teilt die Welt in Freund und Feind, Gläubige und Ungläubige ein und duldet keine Identitäten neben sich. Es geht nicht um Muslime, die die spirituelle Seite des Islam betonen, sondern um diejenigen, die in jeder Alltagssituation zur Flasche der Dogmen greifen.    Für mich hat nur ein „Islam Light“ in Europa eine Zukunft: Islam ohne Scharia, ohne Dschihad, ohne Geschlechter-Apartheid, ohne Missionierung und ohne Anspruchsmentalität. Der Künstler Fouad Bellamine zieht seine Fotoserie "Der Ursprung der Welt" von einer mexikanischen Ausstellung zurück. Er möchte nicht als "Feind des Islam" gelten. VON WOLF-DIETER VOGEL (taz, 08.12.2007). Der marokkanische Künstler Fouad Bellamine hat nachgegeben. Bis zum Februar sollte seine Fotoserie "Der Ursprung der Welt" auf dem 9. Internationalen Festival in der mexikanischen Industriestadt Puebla gezeigt werden. Doch vergangene Woche zog Bellamine sein Werk zurück. Der Grund: Der iranische Botschafter in Mexiko Mohammed Hassan Ghadiri Abyaneh drohte mit einer "diplomatischen Krise" zwischen den beiden Staaten, sollte das Kunstwerk weiterhin ausgestellt werden. Bellamines Arbeit zeigt Bilder eines weiblichen Schoßes, der teilweise von der Silhouette einer Moschee verdeckt wird. Das, so meint der Diplomat, sei "superpornografisch" und verhöhne die islamische Kultur. Dem Marokkaner drohte er, ihn in der arabischen Welt als "Feind des Islam" zu brandmarken. Die Fotoserie geht auf eine Arbeit des französischen Malers Gustave Courbet aus dem 19. Jahrhundert zurück. Dessen Gemälde zeigt eine unverhüllte Vagina und wurde damals zensiert.

MARK STEYN | Oct 20, 2006: The future belongs to Islam. (Summary:)The Muslim world has youth, numbers and global ambitions. The West is growing old and enfeebled, and lacks the will to rebuff those who would supplant it. It's the end of the world as we've known it. The key factors are: demographic decline; the unsustainability of the social democratic state; and civilizational exhaustion. The salient feature of Europe, Canada, Japan and Russia is that they're running out of babies. Demographic decline and the unsustainability of the social democratic state are closely related....  Islam has youth and will, Europe has age and welfare....  By "demographic," I mean the Muslim world's high birth rate, which by mid-century will give tiny Yemen a higher population than vast empty Russia.... The question for today's Europe is whether the primary identity of their fastest-growing demographic is Muslim or Belgian, Muslim or Dutch, Muslim or French. That's where civilizational confidence comes in: if "Dutchness" or "Frenchness" seems a weak attenuated thing, then the stronger identity will prevail. Europe, like Japan, has catastrophic birth rates and a swollen pampered elderly class determined to live in defiance of economic reality. But the difference is that on the Continent the successor population is already in place and the only question is how bloody the transfer of real estate will be. On the Continent and elsewhere in the West, native populations are aging and fading and being supplanted remorselessly by a young Muslim demographic. This fast-moving demographic transformation provides a huge comfort zone for the jihad to move around in. Actually, I don't think everything's about jihad. But I do think, as I said, that a good 90 per cent of everything's about demography. Take that media characterization of those French rioters: "youths." What's the salient point about youths? They're youthful. Civil disobedience is a young man's game. Of the ethnic Belgian population, some 17 per cent are under 18 years old. Of the country's Turkish and Moroccan population, 35 per cent are under 18 years old. The "youths" get ever more numerous, the non-youths get older. Colonel Gadhafi (concludes): There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe -- without swords, without guns, without conquests. The fifty million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades. "We're the ones who will change you," the Norwegian imam Mullah Krekar told the Oslo newspaper Dagbladet in 2006. "Just look at the development within Europe, where the number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes. Every Western woman in the EU is producing an average of 1.4 children. Every Muslim woman in the same countries is producing 3.5 children." As he summed it up: "Our way of thinking will prove more powerful than yours."

 Rolf Verleger (Schalom 5767): "Und als Muslim bekommt man heute ziemlich genau die Vorhaltungen gemacht, die früher Juden zu hören bekamen." Allein mit diesem Satz widerlegt Verleger sich selbst gegenüber Micha Brumlik, der  von der Möglichkeit geschrieben hat, dass es jüdische Antisemiten geben könnte. Wer auch immer, Muslim, Christ, Jude oder Atheist, die Ideologie, die sich in dem Pamphlet "Die Weisen von Zion" kondensiert hatte, mit der heutigen Kritik am Islam vergleicht, ist entweder blind und taub, dummdreist oder ein bewußter Verdreher der Tatsachen. Falls Brumlik solche Menschen gemeint haben sollte, traf er wohl ins Schwarze.

In "What's Wrong?" "It is vital to grasp that traditional and even mainstream Islamic teaching accepts and promotes violence. Shariah, for example, allows apostates to be killed, permits beating women to discipline them, seeks to subjugate non-Muslims to Islam as dhimmis and justifies declaring war to do so. It exhorts good Muslims to exterminate the Jews before the "end of days." The near deafening silence of the Muslim majority against these barbaric practices is evidence enough that there is something fundamentally wrong. Yet it is ironic and discouraging that many non-Muslim, Western intellectuals--who unceasingly claim to support human rights--have become obstacles to reforming Islam. Political correctness among Westerners obstructs unambiguous criticism of Shariah's inhumanity. They find socioeconomic or political excuses for Islamist terrorism such as poverty, colonialism, discrimination or the existence of Israel. Western feminists duly fight in their home countries for equal pay and opportunity, but seemingly ignore, under a façade of cultural relativism, that large numbers of women in the Islamic world live under threat of beating, execution and genital mutilation, or cannot vote, drive cars and dress as they please." (April 3, 2007).
On Geert Wilders' Fitna: The question, however, is whether the blame is with Mr. Wilders, who simply exposed Islamic radicalism, or with those who promote and engage in this religious extremism. In other words, shall we fault Mr. Wilders for showing photos of the hanging of homosexuals, or shall we fault those who actually promote and practice this crime? When the British government banned Geert Wilders from entering the country to present his film in the House of Lords, it made two egregious errors. The first was to suppress free speech, a canon of the civilized Western world. The second mistake was to blame the messenger -- punishing, so to speak, the witness who exposed the crime instead of punishing the criminal. Mr. Wilders did not produce the content of the violent Islamic message he showed in his film -- the Islamic world did that. Until the Islamic clerical establishment takes concrete steps to reject violence in the name of their religion, Mr. Wilders criticism is not only permissible as "controversial" free speech but justified." On 29 March, UNHRC adopted a resolution, proposed by Islamic countries, condemning defamation of religion and urging nation states to ban it, on a 21-10 vote, despite opposition from Europe and Canada.Western countries voted against the resolution because of its potential usage to limit freedom of expression....It is an insult to the very name of UNHRC to kowtow to the lectures and design of the Saudis—evidently, the worst violators of human rights, freedom of expression and freedom of religion. The wider Islamic world also violates these basic rights of citizens more often and widely as compared to rest of the world. It is needless to explain that UNHRC's latest resolution is intended for curbing freedom of expression in Western countries where this fundamental human right is exercised in good measure in the true sense of it—albeit lately stunted by Islamist intimidation, threats of violence and even murder.

BIN LADEN'S DISSIDENTS (Spiegel, 14.7.08)

Mawlana Mawdudi, ein pakistanischer Vordenker des modernen Djihads, schreibt: ‚Der Islam ist keine normale Religion wie die anderen Religionen der Welt ... der Islam ist ein revolutionärer Glaube, der antritt, jede von Menschen geschaffene Staatsform zu zerstören.’ Nur wenn wir diese und andere Selbstaussagen von Muslimen und dem Koran ernst nehmen, werden wir erkennen, dass der Islam und die Welt der Muslime mit unseren westlichen Denkkategorien nicht zu erfassen sind.“²⁰ Auch der bosnische Politiker und Muslim Alija Izetbegović vertritt „die Unvereinbarkeit des Islam mit nichtislamischen Systemen. Es kann weder Frieden noch Koexistenz zwischen der islamischen Religion. und nichtislamischen gesellschaftlichen und politischen Institutionen geben.“22 „Sobald die islamische Bewegung stark genug ist, muß sie die Macht übernehmen und eine islamische Republik schaffen.“23    
Autor Rainer Grell (Dichtung und Wahrheit: Die Geschichte des „Muslim-Tests“ in Baden-Württemberg) dazu: Es verhält sich in diesem Punkt ähnlich wie mit Hitlers „Mein Kampf“: Die darin enthaltenen Aussagen waren teilweise so unglaublich, dass sie niemand in ihrer ganzen Tragweite wörtlich genommen hat. Als die Realität zeigte, wie ernst der Autor (Hitler) gerade die unglaublichsten Passagen gemeint hatte, war es schon zu spät. Wir müssen unsere ganze Aufmerksamkeit und Kraft darauf richten, dass uns, d.h. den Deutschen und Europäern, das gleiche nicht auch mit dem politischen Islam passiert.

• Blind Faiths - Ayaan Hirsi Ali discusses "The Suicide of Reason” by Lee Harris: Thus, it is not reason that accommodates and encourages the persistent segregation and tribalism of immigrant Muslim populations in the West. It is Romanticism. Multiculturalism and moral relativism promote an idealization of tribal life and have shown themselves to be impervious to empirical criticism.

• Max Weber claimed that Islam lacks an "idea system" critical for sustaining a scientific culture based on innovation, new experiences, quantification, and empirical verification. Science and the Islamic world—The quest for rapprochement. Internal causes led to the decline of Islam's scientific greatness long before the era of mercantile imperialism. To contribute once again, Muslims must be introspective and ask what went wrong. By Pervez Amirali Hoodbhoy (physics.org, August 2007).

• Raymond Ibrahim (editor and translator of The Al Qaeda Reader, recently published by Broadway Books): The Two Faces of Al Qaeda. Bin Laden goes so far as to say that the West's purported hostility toward Islam is wholly predicated on Islam's innate hostility toward the rest of the world, contradicting his own propaganda: "The West is hostile to us on account of ... offensive jihad." (The Chronicle Review, 21 Sep. 07). "Two Faces" means talking to the western audience is marked by defensive political arguments, talking to Muslims is more like a treatise on religion. 

• Walid Phares: Jihad. What we have here is a relentless, unstoppable and totalitarian agenda. Western intellectual elites have ignored the threat and portrayed the ideology as a form of protest against colonialism and western foreign policies, while in reality it was and remains jihadism, a doctrine calling for a new imperialism and the re-establishment of an old empire, the Caliphate.(18.5.07).  

• David Bukay: Peace or Jihad? Abrogation in Islam.
  While not all terrorism is rooted in Islam, the religion is an enabler for many. It is wrong to assume that more extreme interpretations of religion are illegitimate. Statements that there is no compulsion in religion and that jihad is primarily about internal struggle and not about holy war may receive applause in university lecture halls and diplomatic board rooms, but they misunderstand the importance of abrogation in Islamic theology. It is important to acknowledge that what university scholars believe, and what most Muslims—or more extreme Muslims—believe are two different things. Everything in the Qur'an about forgiveness and peace is abrogated by verse 9:5, which orders Muslims to fight the unbelievers and to establish God's kingdom on earth.

Jahrhundert bis zum Osmanischen Reich war die Geschichte des Mittleren Ostens eine Geschichte von Aufstieg und Niedergang großer Imperien. Nicht zuletzt war sie die eines islamischen imperialistischen Traums. Dieser Traum, so Efraim Karsh, existiert bis zum heutigen Tag, und der 11. September 2001 kann als sein bisher letzter Ausdruck betrachtet werden. Karsh bietet eine neue Sicht auf Geschichte und Gegenwart der muslimischen Welt. Er betrachtet sie nicht als Ausläufer europäischer und amerikanischer Machtpolitik, sondern porträtiert sie als Gegenentwurf zur westlichen Zivilisation und stellt unmissverständlich klar, wonach der Islam strebt, nämlich der Veränderung der Welt nach seinen Vorstellungen.
  «Die Geburt des Islam war im Gegensatz dazu unauflöslich mit der Schaffung eines Weltreichs verbunden, und sein Universalismus war von Natur aus imperialistisch. Er unterschied nicht zwischen weltlicher und religiöser Macht, beide waren in der Person Muhammads vereint, der seine Autorität unmittelbar von Gott bezog und gleichzeitig als staatliches und kirchliches Oberhaupt agierte. Aus diesem Grund konnte der Prophet seine politischen Ambitionen in eine Aura des Religiösen hüllen und die Energien des Islam zu einem "Instrument aggressiver Expansion bündeln, zu dem es als Gegengewicht keinen internen, gleich starken Organismus gab"...Der Islam hat sein imperialistisches Streben bis heute bewahrt.»

• Hat der Vierte Weltkrieg längst begonnen? Der französische Autor Maurice G. Dantec hat mit apokalyptischen Thesen in seinem Land einen unheimlichen Erfolg. Dass es al-Qaida, der Hamas oder den iranischen Mullahs in Wahrheit gar nicht um den Islam, sondern um die 35-Stunden-Woche, Jahresurlaub und Kaufkraft für die Massen ginge, ist eine ausnehmend schwache These. Sie wird auch nicht besser, wenn "Attac" und Le Monde Diplomatique sie mit Inbrunst propagieren. (SZ, 3.4.07).

In this thorough reconsideration of Said’s famous work, Ibn Warraq argues that Said’s case against the West is seriously flawed. Warraq accuses Said of not only willfully misinterpreting the work of many scholars, but also of systematically misrepresenting Western civilization as a whole.
